Sticky Banana Chocolate Tart

February 12, 2013

Banane Al Caramello

Bananas, chocolate, puff pastry and a perfect caramel, in other words a dessert from heaven.  I did at first think that this recipe would be too sweet but it really is just beautiful.  It made me feel like a child although it can still be served as a romantic dessert.  Served with ice cream or flavoured whippe cream its a special treat for special people.  It is the sort of dessert you give to someone to apologise.  Trust me they won’t stay mad at you for long with this.

This recipe was taken from Gino D’Acampo fantastico: Modern Italian Food (Kyle Books, 2011).

Ingredients:

50g salted butter, 120g caster sugar, 6 bananas (chopped and peeled), 100g chocolate chips, 250g ready made puff pastry, plain flour (for dusting).

Method:

1. Melt the butter with the sugar.
2. Cook on a medium heat for 5 minutes until a caramel forms.
3. Pre heat the oven to 200 degrees C.
4. Pour the caramel into an oven proof dish.
5. Place the bananas on top.
6. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top.
7. Roll the pastry out using the flour.
8. Place over the bananas, caramel and chocolate.
9. Use your fingers to overlap the sides of the pastry.
10. Bake the tart for 25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
11. Cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Saffy’s Personal Touch:

Put on a letter or a personal touch for the final decoration.  Do this by cutting out a shape with the puff pastry and baking separately.
