Couscous Asian Style

Bunny Hop 

There was a dance move called the bunny hop which I had been trying to practice for 5 months and in January I finally managed to do the movement to my satisfaction.  It involves jumping continuously in a pike position every 2 of 8 counts but you have to change your arms into a different position each time.  The movement has to look as seductive as it does athletic rather difficult.  Before dance training I needed a good amount of carbohydrates to give me enough energy.  I owe the success of this dance I think to my yummy couscous.  I was dancing for hours to the best of my ability.  Of course I had been training very hard, but as this was an evening training practice I was low in energy and need something quick, fast and healthy.  I made a tasty couscous with a slight Asian twist.



100g couscous, 40g frozen peas, 4 tsps sesame oil, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 20g sesame seeds.


1. Boil hot water and pour over couscous in a heatproof bowl about an inch above the couscous.
2. Add the peas and stir.
3. Leave for 10 minutes.
4.  After 8 minutes mix in the sesame seeds, oil and sauce.
5. When the couscous has absorbed all the water and has become fluffy stir with a fork and season to taste.

Saffy’s Top Tip:

Try using different vegetables.  Spinach and tomatoes would taste fantastic with this.
